African American entrepreneurs are spearheading the development of a 300-acre housing project in Accra, Ghana, named Sanbra City—‘Sanbra’ meaning ‘return’ in the Akan language. This initiative aims to provide modern, sustainable housing options for the African diaspora, encouraging reconnection with their ancestral roots.
The project is a collaboration between Earn Your Leisure co-founders Rashad Bilal and Troy Millings, activist Chakabars, and Ghanaian developers Alvin Bekoe, Kwame Blay, and Tuyee Yeboah. Their collective vision is to foster economic investment in Africa and create a thriving community for diasporans returning home.

Sanbra City aligns with Ghana’s “Year of Return” and “Beyond the Return” initiatives, which encourage African Americans and people of African descent to reconnect with their heritage through tourism, investment, and residency. By developing a sustainable residential community, the project aims to strengthen cultural and economic ties between Ghana and the global Black community.
The first phase of the development, known as The Cascades, encompasses a 30-acre gated community located near Borteyman, Trasacco. This phase offers luxury urban living within 15 minutes of Kotoka International Airport and adjacent to the stadium for the All African Games. The Cascades features competitively priced luxury homes, aiming to attract members of the diaspora seeking a permanent residence in Ghana.

Construction of The Cascades began in August 2024, with an expected completion date in October 2027. The project has already garnered significant interest, with over 300 potential buyers expressing intent during the Investfest conference. This enthusiasm underscores the growing desire among African Americans to invest in and reconnect with their ancestral homeland.

Sanbra City represents a significant step toward bridging the gap between Africa and its diaspora, offering a tangible opportunity for individuals to return, invest, and contribute to the continent’s development.
