Ghana’s outgoing President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has approved visa-free entry for all Africans seeking to come into Ghana.

This groundbreaking move will take effect from January 2025 and it aims to foster greater continental unity, promote economic collaboration, and strengthen cultural ties across Africa. The initiative aligns with the goals of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), headquartered in Accra, and is a step towards realizing the vision of unrestricted movement for Africans within the continent.

Ghana joins Rwanda, Seychelles, The Gambia, and Benin to become the 5th country offering visa-free entry to all African passport holders.

By removing visa barriers, Ghana seeks to position itself as a hub for tourism, trade, and investment while deepening its commitment to Pan-African ideals. This policy also underscores Ghana’s historical role as a leader in African liberation and integration efforts.

This announcement has been widely welcomed, with hopes that it will inspire other African nations to adopt similar measures to enhance intra-African connectivity and cooperation.
