Tropical Depression 19 expected to become tropical storm
Central Florida could see tropical impacts next week as Tropical Depression 19 is expected to move into the Gulf of Mexico from the Caribbean.
As of now, the future of what could be Sara is going to be highly dependent on how much the system interacts with Central America and the Yucatan Peninsula over the next four to five days.
The more it stays on land, the weaker the storm will be once it eventually enters the Gulf of Mexico by next week. If the system remains enough offshore, it could intensify further.
At this point, we still don’t know what the storm will look like as it moves into the Gulf. Long range models do show a cold front sending its associated moisture across Florida by the middle of the week.
As of Thursday morning, the system has maximum sustained winds of 35 mph and is moving west at 15 mph.
According to the National Hurricane Center, it is expected to stall near the north coast of Honduras late Friday and through the weekend.
Hurricane season runs through the end of November.
This is a system all Floridians should continue to monitor as we get a better handle on the future of this storm.
