To Be Free

Oh, to be free, just to live,
Without the burden, without the cry,
Must we beg, must we plead?
Just to be who we are inside?

Chains of fear, chains of law,
Tearing love from heart to heart,
Do you not see the pain you cause?
When you say that love’s a crime from the start?

But love’s a bird with broken wings,
Who only dreams of skies and flight,
And in your hands, you hold the strings,
Yet you deny its right to light.
