Botswana has officially entered the electric vehicle (EV) market with the unveiling of its first domestically assembled Electric Vehicles, a significant step in its technological and economic development. This milestone comes through a collaboration with Chinese automotive brands, positioning Botswana as a regional leader in sustainable mobility.

The nation plans to roll out 50 electric vehicles in the near future, after the successful assembly and testing of three buses and SUVs. These vehicles come with impressive ranges of 520 km and 250 km, respectively. This initiative also includes the training of over 150 Botswana technicians in vehicle assembly, creating a skilled workforce to support the growing EV industry.

Beyond its EV advancements, Botswana continues to demonstrate an impressive commitment to its citizens’ well-being. University students receive a monthly stipend of $154, citizens benefit from free healthcare, and the country’s low crime rate is exemplified by the President being able to walk around without security. Citizens can also apply for free land, and grants are provided to the elderly and disabled, reflecting the nation’s dedication to social welfare.
