According to a statement issued by the Communication Directorate of the Faso Presidency, Bukina Faso has expressed concern regarding the sanctions imposed on Niger by the CEDEAO (French/Portuguese abbreviation of ECOWAS) during their summit in Abuja on July 30, 2023.

In response to this development, the statement states that the President of the Bukina Faso Transition, Captain Ibrahim Traore, and the President of the Malian Transition, Colonel Assimi Goita, met in Saint Petersburg on July 27, 2023, and agreed to offer their assistance to Niger in case of any violation of its territorial integrity.

To support this initiative, “a request for technical and military assistance has been made to Russian President Vladimir Putin.”

Furthermore, the statement revealed that “Captain Traore and Colonel Goita had a telephone conversation with Lieutenant Colonel Mamadi Doumbouya, the Head of State of Guinea, who is also involved in this project.”

Captain Ibrahim Traore of Bukina Faso and Colonel Assimi Goita of Mali have instructed their technical teams to quickly analyze possible solutions to help mitigate potential economic and humanitarian sanctions that may be imposed by the CEDEAO summit on Niger.
