The residents of Ekosodin community, mostly comprised of youth and students from the University of Benin, are expressing their frustration with the prolonged power outage by threatening to shut down the offices of the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC). This determination to take action has been discussed and organized through a WhatsApp group consisting of over one thousand participants.

The community’s reliance on electricity is crucial for their everyday activities, including studying, carrying out research, and completing assignments. The continuous power outage has severely affected their productivity and quality of life, hence their decision to take matters into their own hands.

By planning to shut down the BEDC offices, the youth and students hope to draw attention to their grievances and prompt the authorities to address the power outage issue urgently. Their mobilization reflects the frustration and impatience of the residents of Ekosodin, who have been enduring the lack of electricity for an extended period.
